"OUTSIDER"

Forevercoast is the cinematic dream journal of Ash Phillips, realised through stills and short film narratives.
Drawing on the melancholic haze of 1990s film photography and the unsettling beauty of surreal sci-fi, the work explores a landscape where vaporwave nostalgia meets quiet dread. They are fragments of memories from a future that you long to remember.
Forevercoast has established a reputation as the winner of Australia’s first Gen AI film festival, the Disrupt AI Film Festival.
Pink, snakes, eyes, fabrics, glitch.
Drawing deeply from the artist's own reflections, the collection explores themes of enclosure and barriers, both literal fences that divide and metaphorical walls built by imposter syndrome, self-doubt, and the persistent feeling of being an outsider looking in from the cold.
The serpents serve as multifaceted symbols: guardians of sacred knowledge, embodiments of temptation, and reminders of the biblical devil, the archetypal outsider who introduced original sin precisely because he existed beyond the boundaries of paradise. This duality infuses the work with a haunting tension, seductive yet toxic, luxurious yet claustrophobic, beautiful yet profoundly isolating.
